Tom Libonate Appointed New CIHS Board Chair

The Captiva Island Historical Society’s Board of Directors has elected Tom Libonate as their new Chairperson.  He succeeds Jim Pigott, whose capable leadership guided the Libonate.jpegorganization for six years from its inception to where it is today.

“It’s an honor to be appointed Chair of the CIHS Board, and I’m humbled to be following in the footsteps of Jim Pigott in this leadership role.  His are big shoes to fill,” says Tom.

From his first exposure to Captiva in 1986, Tom was drawn to the history and lore of the island.  His earliest interest in Captiva history involved building a collection of old Captiva postcards.  Many of these postcards are on display in the CIHS History Gallery exhibit at the Captiva library.  He joined the CIHS Board in 2015, and co-chaired the Events Committee this past year.

Prior to his retirement in 2010, Mr. Libonate was Vice Chairman and Co-Founder, Ryan Partnership, headquartered in Wilton, Connecticut.

Since co-founding the company in 1984, Mr. Libonate spearheaded the growth trajectory of the company, which until it’s acquisition in 2011 was the largest independently owned marketing agency in North America.  Clients included: Unilever, Nestle, Heineken, Perrier, Energizer, New Balance Athletic and Glaxo SmithKline.

Tom and his wife Merni are residents of Captiva, spending summers in Farmington, CT. He is most proud to be father of four children and grandfather of three.
