The Captiva Island Historical Society (CIHS) proudly presented its third Betty Anholt Guardian of History Award to board member and longtime CEO of the historic ’Tween Waters Inn, Tony Lapi, during a special reception held March 16, 2026, at the Sanibel Community House.

More than 120 guests gathered to celebrate Tony Lapi’s enduring commitment to preserving and promoting the unique heritage of Captiva Island. As a steward of one of the island’s most iconic historic properties, Tony has played a vital role in safeguarding its legacy while ensuring it remains a vibrant part of the community.
As CEO of the historic ’Tween Waters Inn and a dedicated CIHS board member, Tony has played a pivotal role in preserving a most cherished landmark while championing the island’s rich heritage.
The evening featured a tribute video highlighting Tony’s contributions, followed by remarks recognizing his leadership, dedication, and deep connection to Captiva’s history. His efforts exemplify the spirit of the Betty Anholt Guardian of History Award, which honors individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to the preservation of local history.
