Creativity and the Art of History

Bridging Contemporary Art with Captiva’s Past!

Inspired by images from Captiva’s colorful history, Captiva resident—artist and author—Ilie Ruby transforms archival  moments and images into narrative-driven contemporary paintings.  Blending figurative elements with abstraction, her work evokes scenes suspended between memory and imagination.

Join us for an intimate look at the work-behind-the-works, as Captiva Island Historical Society directors share the historical context behind the images that inspired this exhibition.

Hear Ms. Ruby reflect on how history, imagery and data are woven into her creative process.

An event best described as colorful, thought-provoking, and richly informative.
