CIHS Celebrates ‘Gift from the Sea’

The Captiva Island Historical Society celebrated the 70th anniversary of the book “Gift from the Sea,” written by Anne Morrow Lindbergh, at the organization’s season opening event December 3.
Titled Anne Morrow and More, the stage production written by CIHS archivist Queenie Viglione, told the story of what inspired Anne Morrow Lindbergh to write the classic book during time spent on Captiva in the 1950s.
Captiva resident Lisa Riordan portrayed Lindbergh and board member Capt. Brian Holaway served as MC as an audience of approximately 100 people enjoyed the show, held at the Captiva Civic Center.

The historical society has a full season planned in the months ahead. The next event will be a dinner cruise to Cabbage Key aboard Captiva Cruise’s flagship Lady Chadwick, to be held Monday,
January 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. Tickets are available on the organization’s website. This is a rescheduled event from November which had to be postponed due to weather.
On Wednesday, Jan. 14 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Captiva resident, author and artist Ilie Ruby uses her talented brushstrokes to share a unique and intimate look at historical figures on Captiva through data found in the historical society’s archives.
