The Captiva Island Historical Society launched its 8th season of programs with a cruise, lunch and historian address at the Gasparilla Inn on Boca Grande on November 13.

The Captiva Island Historical Society premiered the seventh in its series of “Captiva Memories” film documentaries, revealing the surprising history of Buck Key.

Tuesday evening, February 20 the CIHS presented the inaugural Captiva History Game Show, "What Do You Know?" serving up questions about early island characters, landmarks and folklore, in a Jeopardy-style quiz show format.

The evening of of January 31, 2018 saw history in the making for two of the islands historical organizations – a first time collaboration between the Captiva Island Historical Society and the Sanibel Historical Museum & Village - that not only recognized the 100th anniversary of the first Blind Pass Bridge, but also chronicles the rich history of BLIND PASS -- the place where the two islands overlap.

Last Tuesday evening, the Captiva Island Historical Society (CIHS) kicked off its 2018 schedule of special events with Serving Up Memories of Captiva's Old Time Eateries, a look back at the restaurants that helped make the island famous or are finely remembered by long-time residents
