During the Captiva Island Historical Society’s recent Creativity & the Art of History program, one painting emerged as an especially powerful moment of connection between art, history, and lived experience.

On Wednesday, January 14, the Captiva Island Historical Society presented Creativity & the Art of History, a unique program held at the Captiva Civic Association. The evening offered attendees an intimate look at the historical context and work-behind-the-works of Captiva resident—artist and author—Ilie Ruby

The Captiva Island Historical Society celebrated the 70th anniversary of the book “Gift from the Sea,” written by Anne Morrow Lindbergh, at the organization’s season opening event December 3.

It was a walk down memory lane for a sold-out crowd of over 150 at the Captiva Civic Center April 9, as Tony Lapi, chairman of Sanibel Captiva Beach Resorts, shared stories of his years at the helm of the iconic ‘Tween Waters Inn. It was the closing event of the season for the Captiva Island Historical Society.

A sold-out crowd turned out for the season-opening event for the Captiva Island Historical Society. A history-on-the-water cruise onboard the “Santiva” out of Captiva Cruises at McCarthy’s Marina was held January 27.
