For the Captiva Island Historical Society and its 120 plus guests, Saturday, January 21st provided a little ray of hope, as the CIHS presented a double feature of film documentaries.

The Captiva Island Historical Society ended its season on April 4 with a presentation highlighting facets of the nearly 500-year history of St. Augustine.

Monday evening, March 7th an audience approaching 250 got hooked by the Captiva Island Historical Society’s “Tight Lines & Big Fish Stories: The History of Angling on Captiva,” the ninth documentary film in the CIHS “Captiva Memories” collection.

Monday evening, February 7th, a capacity audience of over 85 people enjoyed a beautiful night in the open-air environment of McCarthy’s Marina watching a “double feature” of Captiva Island History Society’s documentary films, "Our Mailboat Santiva" and "South Seas: An Enduring Paradise."

Tuesday evening, January 11th the Captiva Island Historical Society returned to the open-air environment of McCarthy’s Marina for the presentation of the WGCU documentary “Pink Gold Rush.”

“History has been my passion for years,” asserts Ed Stringer. In pursuit of that passion he majored in American Studies at Amherst College. Law school followed, then twenty years of practice in a law firm, where he developed expertise in anti-trust and trade regulation issues.

Tuesday evening, December 7th, with a salute to the War Years on Captiva, the CIHS once again proved that interpreting and sharing history need not be boring - demonstrating there are imaginative and entertaining ways to learn about Captiva's rich and colorful history.
